Massie: Clock ticking to scale back spy powers

Congress faces a critical deadline, and time is running out. On June 1, 2015, three provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act will expire. The actions of the U.S. Congress between today and June 1st will affect the privacy and liberty of millions of innocent Americans.

The 2001 USA PATRIOT Act was drafted and swiftly passed in the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Due to the nature of the crisis, the goal was simply to pass a bill as quickly as possible. Many congressmen did not have an opportunity to thoroughly read, analyze or vet the bill’s numerous and lengthy provisions. In fact, Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, one of the original authors of the Patriot Act, later declared that he was shocked by how the law was used to spy on innocent Americans.

Congress and the American people now know, thanks to whistleblower leaks, that federal agencies like the National Security Agency regularly perform mass surveillance on Americans without bothering to obtain a warrant. As constitutional law scholar Randy Barnett wrote in the Wall Street Journal, “The National Security Agency has seized from private companies voluminous data on the phone and Internet usage of all U.S. citizens. … This dangerously violates the most fundamental principles of our republican form of government.” He concludes that “[s]uch indiscriminate data seizures are the epitome of ‘unreasonable,’ akin to the ‘general warrants’ issued by the Crown to authorize searches of Colonial Americans.”

FK – Too many ‘conservatives’ have no problem with the police state if it’s enforcing their version, sub-version or subversion. We are still a very primitive species, existing in a very dark age.

All who voted for that law without reading it should be tried and put to crushing large rocks with a sledge hammer in a northern state.

Settlement Won’t Even Cover Medical Bills For Baby Whose Face Was Blown Apart By Police Grenade…

Habersham County, GA–  In May of last year, Bounkham “Baby Bou Bou” Phonesavanh, 19-months-old, was asleep in his crib. At 3:00 am militarized police barged into his family’s home because an informant had purchased $50 worth of meth from someone who once lived there. During the raid, a flash-bang grenade was thrown into the sleeping baby’s crib, exploding in his face.

Beyond the disfiguring wounds on the toddler’s face, the grenade also left a gash in his chest. As a result, Bou lost the ability to breathe on his own and was left in a medically induced coma for days after the incident.  Bou was not able to go home from the hospital until July.

No officers were charged for their near-deadly negligence, and the department claimed that they did not know that there were children in the home.  They defended their reckless actions by saying that they couldn’t have done a thorough investigation prior to the raid because it “would have risked revealing that the officers were watching the house.”

Now, a nearly $1 million dollar settlement has been reached between the family and the county.  One of the terms of the settlement is that the family may not sue individuals involved in maiming their son. Instead of coming from the wallets of the negligent officers, it will come strictly from the taxpayers.

FK – The shysters involved in these ‘settlements’ should be paying out of pocket for the difference. The insane ‘war on drugs’ and ‘war on terror’ must end and real safeguards installed for the use of these SWAT Nazis. We must gain control of how these Jr. Nazs are educated/indoctrinated. They must learn to put the Bill of Rights first.

But I fear we will be forced to do what will be required before that happens. Our governments and ‘just-us’ systems are just too far gone.

No Charges for Cops Who Disfigured Toddler with Grenade During Negligent Drug Raid

FK – Maybe they managed to do something right:

FK – If we’re destroying the Bill of Rights, which is what makes us awesome, in the name of fighting ‘the bad guys’ what are we gaining? Nothing but more slavery.

It’s not their god that’s the midget. It’s the human mind that created it that’s still small, limited. But you’ll never get most of them to understand that.

It’s the same human nature, the world over:

Guru who ordered 400 followers to be castrated ‘so they could be closer to God’ is investigated for grievous bodily harm in India

FK – Being threatened with eternal torture for not doing the ‘right thing’ is certainly not ‘free will.’

Slavery vs. torture is not ‘free will.’

Considering real consequences in the real world is.

Does non-belief in free will make us better or worse?

FK – If millions of ‘believers’ suddenly stopped ‘believing’ what percentage of them would suddenly start doing evil things, i.e. committing real crimes against other people or their property?
