Why didn’t the Union surrender its forts in Southern territory after those states lawfully seceded by votes of their own legislatures just as the colonies did 80 years earlier? Do you really think that as ‘racist’ and ‘supremacist’ as Lincoln and the general public was at that time including most abolitionists that they set out to kill 600,000 white men to free the black slaves? The Yankee generals were worried about their conscripts not having proper shooting skills.
