What Deep Web’s Director Learned Investigating Silk Road

Silk Road Was Just Another Tech Company

Outside of the tech press, Winter notes, a lot of the media coverage on the Silk Road has been “drugs and guns and hitmen—just wildly off-base.” Off-base, he says, because when he started interviewing the people who knew Silk Road he didn’t see an outfit that was all that different from those littering Silicon Valley. “I started to meet all these core architects within the Silk Road: vendors, engineers, sellers, administrators, people who were helping with scaling,” he says. “It’s obvious in retrospect but it was just like any large tech company. But it was just not represented that way in the media, so even I was caught off-guard.”

Official: FBI Overlooked Texas Shooter’s Violent Tweets Because ‘There are So Many Like Him’

An unidentified “senior law enforcement official” tells the New York Times that, while the FBI had been aware of Garland, Texas jihadist attacker Elton Simpson for nearly a decade, they did not follow his violent, pro-jihad tweets as closely as they could have because “there are so many like him” that the agency is overwhelmed.

In a report highlighting the long paper trail Simpson left behind of supporting and engaging with jihadists online, particualrly on Twitter, the Times notes that the sheer barrage of information can make it difficult for law enforcement to identify legitimate and imminent threats out of a sea of wishful jihadist thinkers.

Simpson and his roommate, Nadir Soofi, attacked a “Draw Muhammad” art contest in Garland, Texas on Sunday armed with assault rifles. They were almost immediately neutralized by a traffic officer working at the Culwell Center in Garland, and managed only to shoot one officer in the leg before their demise.

The New York Times notes that, while the center was heavily monitored due to a barrage of terrorist threats online, Simpson himself had only been cursorily monitored. He nonetheless was extremely active on Twitter: “Mr. Simpson, a convert to Islam with a long history of extremism, regularly traded calls for violence on Twitter with Islamic State fighters and supporters, as well as avowed enemies of Pamela Geller, the organizer of the cartoon contest.”

FK – As I often write, we outnumber them… since they’ve been distracted by the ‘war on terror’ when they should be hunting our domestic blood enemies who work tirelessly to destroy the Bill of Rights. But then this is all a big mush. The elites control the system and encourage the ragheads for their own ends. So who are our real enemies?

FBI Quietly Removes Recommendation To Encrypt Your Phone… As FBI Director Warns How Encryption Will Lead To Tears

So, until recently, the FBI was actively recommending you encrypt your data to protect your safety — and yet, today it’s “an affront to the rule of law.” Is this guy serious?

More directly, this should raise serious questions about what Comey thinks his role is at the FBI (or the FBI’s role is for the country)? Is it to keep Americans safe — or is it to undermine their privacy and security just so it can spy on everyone?

Not surprisingly, Comey pulls out the trifecta of FUD in trying to explain why it needs to spy on everyone: pedophiles, kidnappers and drug dealers:

“Tech execs say privacy should be the paramount virtue,” Comey continued, “When I hear that I close my eyes and say try to image what the world looks like where pedophiles can’t be seen, kidnapper can’t be seen, drug dealers can’t be seen.”

Meet the “Surveillance State Repeal Act” – A Bipartisan Bill to Fully Repeal the Patriot Act

Apple Wants You to Get Accustomed to Real-time Tracking

Tech giant Apple is not coy about it. They want you to get used to real-time tracking. That’s why they are changing Find My Friends to Track My Friends.

A patent granted to the company on Tuesday by the government describes a process that allows a user of a mobile device to view a visual representation of the movement of a person with another device.

“For example, someone is going for a hike or a trip and wants you to stay informed of his or her whereabouts,” CNet explains. “That person would enable a feature on a mobile device to allow you to see and track in real time the path being taken on your own mobile device or computer. On the flip side, you could also share your route so the two of you can stay abreast of each other’s ongoing location.”

Also on the flipside, this information could be “shared” with the NSA and possibly local police. The mega-surveillance agency already has a number of tracking programs in place — such as “Boundless Informant,” a tool that tracks information across the internet — and police departments are using Stingray and Hailstorm technology to track cell phone calls.

FK – Don’t fear the tech, fear the abuse of the tech. Time to demand this is stopped… Yes we can.

Abolishing ATF Might Undermine One of the Best Tools for Hobbling Federal Gun Laws

To those of us familiar with the long train of abuses perpetrated by the BATFE against the American people, and with the fact that the reason for the very existence of the agency is for the enforcement of blatantly unconstitutional “laws,” H.R. 1329, the “ATF Elimination Act,” as it will apparently be titled, might sound like just what the doctor ordered for treatment of the horrible affliction of “gun control.” Indeed, JPFO has itself long urged America’s gun owners to get behind the campaign to “Boot the BATFE.”

As undeniably satisfying as that would be, though, I argue that actually accomplishing that goal might fairly be described as “winning the battle, but losing the war.” It all comes down to something from the previous paragraph–something worth repeating: ” . . . the reason for the very existence of the agency is for the enforcement of blatantly unconstitutional ‘laws.'” There is no reason to anticipate the imminent repeal of the unconstitutional federal gun laws (which is basically another way of saying all federal gun laws). Rep. Sensenbrenner’s bill, as well-intended as it undoubtedly is, certainly would not do so, and indeed would transfer enforcement of federal gun laws to the far larger, better funded, and more powerful FBI. As tireless liberty advocate Mike Vanderboegh has long argued, “I tell you now, I far prefer the devil I know in rehab than the devil I don’t running free with even greater power operating behind a cloak of invisibility, immunity and impunity.”

Some might argue that the FBI is less evil, less corrupt, and less prone to sadistic predation on the American people. Perhaps–but is that all the higher we are going to set the bar? It was not the BATFE, after all, but FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi who murdered an unarmed Vicky Weaver at Ruby Ridge, while she held her 10-month-old baby.

When the federal government incinerated scores of men, women, and children alive at Waco, it was not the BATFE, but the FBI who orchestrated the massacre (although the FBI did “honor” their little brothers and sisters of the smaller agency, by running up the BATFE flag over the still-smoking remains of their victims). In short, going from unconstitutional gun laws being enforced by the BATFE, to having the same unconstitutional gun laws enforced by the FBI, is not an upgrade for liberty.

FK – The republicrats had the congress and the now red house for years. What did they do but stand around with their fingers in the dike? What are they doing now? They could have de-funded BATF, DHS, and dozens of other evil agencies, laws, long ago.

Where’s the NRA? Why is GOA the only ‘gun group’ talking about amnesty when the commies want the illegals here for one reason: so they can get them to vote commie?

This column makes sense but in the bigger picture I’m not sure it makes much difference. Until enough apply proper political pressure or until enough wake up to the necessity of doing what will be required, we will remain saddled as the NWO livestock we are.
