Yahoo, Yelp, Facebook, Google and Microsoft reconsider their relationship with free-market group ALEC

Five tech giants have dropped, or plan to or are expected to drop, their membership in the American Legislative Exchange Council, a free-market, state-focused group that has become a target of the left in recent years.

The group maintains a library of model state and local legislation and connects businesses, nonprofits and a substantial number of state lawmakers, offering corporate members a voice in the policymaking process. But ALEC has come under fire in recent years for its support of what liberal groups say are conservative social and fiscal policies. Most recently, shareholders and nonprofits have aligned to pressure its corporate members — who pay at least $7,000 to $25,000 for such membership — to dump the organization over its environmental policies.

Several technology companies have recently announced that they have dropped or expect to drop their membership, but their reasons differ. Yahoo, Yelp and Facebook are the latest to issue statements about their involvement with ALEC, following announcements by Google earlier in the week and Microsoft this summer.

FK – I’m not familiar with ALEC but was feeling sorry for them after reading this commie attack page on the group. I was considering trying to do a story on their troubles and trying to find a contact number, email whatever on their website when I read their ‘media‘ page.

This is the email I sent them:

I did feel sorry for you, maybe…

…concerning your recent troubles, i.e. being under attack the the amerikan communist insurgency, until I read your media page:

http://www.alec.org/media-policy/

But I assume now you’d consider me to be a ‘nobody’ since I’m not an ‘official’ newswhore.

BTW, this is my ‘press pass’:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

One wonders if you recognize it.

You people don’t get it do you? Maybe you don’t want to. Maybe you deserve to be shut down.

FK – I’m more convinced than ever of the on-going effort to mainstream the net and corral those who truly question authority, of whatever kind or from whatever ‘wing,’ right or left, into a dark corner of the net that the average sheeple will never know exists. The PTAWTB have done such before and will do it again if they can find a way.

I notice ALEC claims to be ‘non-partisan.’ This either shows the cluelessness of their leadership or that they’re blatant liars. Any group that claims to be ‘non-partisan’ is questionable since there’s no such thing. It’s impossible. All humans are ‘partisan’ about something, even the most a-political. There’s certainly never been a ‘non-partisan’ publication, newswhore or lobbying group in this country. American newspapers historically were political and favored one party or cause over others.
